Visscher Seafood

“In a quiet week we process 80 to 85 tonnes, in an action week 130 to 140 tonnes. We can meet all customer requirements. This degree of flexibility is needed and is also offered with the Borncut.”
Pieter Korf, head production @ Visscher Seafood
What is Visscher looking for?
Visscher has a salmon processing machine that needs to be replaced. The choice fell on Borncut, as Visscher already owns several machines from this manufacturer, to its full satisfaction. “What counted for us is that Borncut has a local dealer that met our requirements,” he says. That supplier is IB Food-Machines, which, like Visscher, is based in Urk. IB Food-Machines has owned the originally Danish Borncut since 2024.
Which solution does IB Food-Machines offer?

To be on the safe side, not one, but two Borncuts are bought as demand continues to grow. Then it is not just about the total amount of salmon, but also customers are asking for more and more different portion sizes. There is also talk of different recipes. “That’s why we even added a third machine later on,” says Pieter Korf, Visscher’s head of production.
Visscher not only lets IB Food-Machines supply the machines, but also asks them to actively think along with it. Thus, the choice fell on the Borncut 225S, which is more suitable when some flexibility in margins is needed. Time constraints and customer requirements also play a part in this decision. In consultation with IB Food-Machines, Visscher opts for a situation with additional staff, although it is also possible to combine the Borncut with a discharge conveyor.
Another advantage is that the Borncut is more compact than comparable machines. Virtually every company in the meat and fish industry is short of space, which can be used optimally this way. The favourable prices – including for spare parts – and efficiency also contribute to the choice of this brand.

What's the end result?
The three Borncut machines are in full use, by the 20 employees in the department. Among other things, Korf praises the ability to set very precise margins. “The retailers we produce for accept a deviation of 1 to 2 grams, or 4 to 5 grams. You can easily set those margins on the Borncut.” The machine also helps to value the whole fillet: from hefty strips of salmon, to the tail end or bits and pieces, such as shreds. Korf adds: “We also use the Borncut for bias cuts and steaks.”
Because spare parts are included, Visscher can solve relatively minor problems itself. Maintenance and cleaning are also easy to do yourself, according to Korf. Moreover, employees have become well accustomed to the machines. “With portioning machines, you sometimes see that a belt is broken or the blade warps if you don’t put the machine back together properly after cleaning. But our people have been working with the Borncuts for a long time now, so this never really happens.”
